Eye-catching pair of two “Zodiac” wall sconces designed by Jacques Biny, manufactured by Lita in France, circa 1950.

The lamps are made of very high quality black lacquered metal, designed in the minimalistic, functional style that is very recognizable for Jacques Biny. The lamps and the light they emit can be directed in different positions and are easily movable by a small, elegant handle that is a great finishing touch to the design. These unique pieces of French design would make an ideal addition to any modern interior!

The lamps are in truly excellent condition, which is very rare! Their wear is very minor, preserving a very nice patina.

Jacques Biny was an interior designer, and founded in 1953 the lighting design company, Luminalite. Notably, he produced models by Jean-Boris Lacroix, Louis Baillon and Michel Buffet. The lighting designed by Luminalite were designed to be functional and to fit into modern spaces, hence the simplicity of the lines of the pieces. Biny was innovative in his choice to use new materials, such as plexiglass and also introduced new methods such as perforating metal to diffuse light or using metallic paint into his works.
