This stunning hanging lamp, model “Gaspare”, is an original vintage piece by Angelo Brotto, manufactured by Esperia in Italy around 1980.

This is one of the most iconic designs by Brotto. Made of high quality black lacquered metal with a chrome plated hood, this piece has changed and modernised the view on design lighting forever. It fits perfectly within the current day and age, but is an actual design from the seventies. Purchased by us directly from Esperia in Italy, where they used the lamps for their booth in the Milan Design Week and kept them as museum pieces. This is an original 1970s production, good as new. Including the original manufacturer’s label and signed proof of authenticity directly from Esperia!

Each lamp remains in excellent condition. We have several in stock, sold individually.

Angelo Brotto (1914-2002) was an Italian designer and artist from Venice. He is mostly known for his work as a lamp designer and glassworker (often combined) as we are showing in our gallery in the heart of Amsterdam. In 1941, after graduating the Accademia di Belle Arti in Venice, ithe Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs commissioned Brotto to paint frescoes in nearby country Montenegro. This was the start of an exceptional career in art and design! He won many awards, including awards including the very first Exhibition of Engravings in Rome. In the 1960s, a fruitful collaboration started: Brotto together with glass company Esperia, where many iconic art and lighting was designed with the use of Murano glass.
