A beautiful lounge chair model “Big Tulip”, designed by Pierre Paulin, manufactured by Artifort in The Netherlands around 1950.
This is an iconic design with exceptional seating comfort and a beautiful unique style. The chair is newly upholstered in high quality fabric by Dutch company De Ploeg (and labeled as such), which matches very nicely with the chrome plated metal crossbase. The elegant, creative shapes are inspired by the natural beauty of the tulip and translated in a way that’s ideal for a seat. The smooth armrests and slightly bent seat and backrest all add greatly to the seating comfort and make the chair a highly recognizable Paulin piece, ready to impress in any interior!
It remains in very good, vintage condition with minor wear consistent with age and use, preserving a beautiful patina.
Pierre Paulin (1927-2009) was a French designer who embraced complexity. Admired and exhibited all-over the world, he was an architect of the imaginary, an unwitting creator of fashion, an unpredictable and pioneering spirit. For the past 60 years, Pierre Paulin has had a major impact on our everyday environment through shapes as sweet as memories, seats as braced as sculptures, spaces as undulant as sand dunes, and objects whose innovative style shape our daily life without our knowing it.
