An incredibly rare, original sideboard by Gerrit Rietveld Jr., manufactured in the Netherlands around 1950.
The cabinet has a beautiful, minimalist Dutch style. Made of high quality wood with elegant glass sliding doors and round perforations for door handels. The tubular black lacquered metal frame holds the cabinet from the sides and also holds an additional shelf above it, for extra storage space. An eye-catching piece that has a place in the history of Dutch design and is therefore a fantastic find for any design enthusiast!
It has the original label saying: “Rechten voorbehouden ontwerp G. RIETVELD Jr.” which translates to “Rights reserved design G. Rietveld Jr.”.
It remains in good, original condition with minor wear consistent with age and use, preserving a beautiful patina.
Provenance: Galerie Frans Leidelmeijer, Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
Also has been auctioned at Christies London in 2007, 11 December.
