Very rare side chairs, model “Midway”, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright for Cassina in Italy around 1980.
These eye-catching chairs are made of high quality red lacquered metal with green coloured upholstery to the round seats and backs. They were originally designed in 1914 by Frank Lloyd Wright for the Midway gardens in Chicago. The Midway chair 1 (made of wood) for the indoor spaces, and the Midway chair 2 (made of metal) for the outdoor spaces. The original project ran out of funds by the time it came to furniture production. In 1986, the FLW Foundation and Cassina worked together to produce the midway 2 chair in a limited edition. These chairs are original Cassina editions. The iconic design makes really nice use of shapes, with the rounded seats, triangle structures and details and semi circle upholstery.
Sold individually, the price is per piece.
The chairs remain in good, vintage condition with minor wear consistent with age and use, preserving a beautiful patina. One chair has more notable wear and discoloring as the other, as shown in the photos.
