Rare set of six Axe chairs (dining chairs), designed by Floris Schoonderbeek for Studio Weltevree in the Netherlands between 2006 and 2009.

The Axechair is a cast aluminum chair, made with axe handles from the Swedish company Gränsfors as chair legs. Gränsfors is world renowned for producing the best axes, they are hand forged, incredibly good quality and also aesthetically pleasing. The clear and extremely strong connection between the seat and the leg is directly derived from the construction of chop axes. Gränsfors is an inspiring company, both in technology and in culture. The Axechair is actually a travel document, about Gränsfors, about the factory and craft. It has delivered a usable chair. Tough and yet elegant.

The set remains in very good original condition with minor wear consistent with age and use, preserving a beautiful patina.

Floris Schoonderbeek studied at the Design Academy in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. He didn’t finish school, because he decided to start his own design studio. From there he developed products and (art) projects. Because he didn’t want to be depending on brands or labels, he stated his own label: Weltevree. Their mission is to find sustainable and new ways to develop products. Schoonderbeek received different awards and nominations, onder which a Nomination for the Dutch Design Award 2017, Art of Batteries (E-Livery Concept) in 2014, Dutchtub nomination for the Rotterdam Design award in 2003.
